Zac EfronZac Efron is all grown up, and having quite a year. He's received good reviews for the upcoming "Me and Orson Welles," and "17 Again," and proved to have a lot of staying power at the box office with his starring "17" turn. (He even managed to hold out against "X-Men Origin: Wolverine," which is no small feat!)

Efron surprised many when he dropped out of "Footloose", but he's eager to take on more mature roles, and making good progress by joining projects such as "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zac is continuing his movie maturation by landing the lead part in an untitled thriller. Read more...

FROM NEWSROOM BLOG: Alexa Chung is only into the second week of her new MTV show “It’s On With Alexa Chung,” and already her sense of style is making waves. She’s brought a bit of East London chic to New York, and the girls in the office forced me to ask her how one achieves the Alexa Chung look.

Apparently, it’s all very simple. According to Alexa, first you have to look like “a girl who borrowed her brother’s school clothes via her grandmother.”

Press play below to hear the host explain her sartorial sense and continue reading more about Alexa's style at Newsroom.MTV.com

New MoonMake room on your bookshelves, Twilighters. EW.com just revealed the new movie tie-in book cover for "New Moon" (click here to see the full version in all its Taylor Lautner glory), and it might make you a Team Jacob convert yet (that is, if you're not one already!).

Upon initial inspection the first thing I noticed was Jacob's shorn hair (finally!) and that extra 30 pounds of muscle Taylor packed on to secure the role (thank you, sleeveless tee!). It then took nearly five seconds of frantic searching to locate Edward's (Robert Pattinson) dazzling face staring back at me from inside the moon. Clever, publishers. Clever. Read more...

Alex Pettyfer The fantastical romance "Beastly" — a modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale about a NYC boy who, due to a curse, is transformed into a "beast" — won't hit theaters until July 2010 (production began in Montreal just last week), but star Alex Pettyfer's new hardened look has already been unveiled.

In the film, Alex, who's best known for his titular role in "Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker," plays the beast (actual name: Kyle) to Vanessa Hudgen's Belle (actual name: Lindy). Lindy winds up living in Kyle's Brooklyn hideout (yes, his father apparently banishes him to a borough) after Kyle promises her drug addict dad that he'll watch over her. "Beastly" is among a slew of films already on the "High School Musical" star's plate. Make sure to check out Hollywood Crush's exclusive clip of her in her next flick, "Bandslam" (out August 14)!

Peter Facinelli FROM MTV.COM: "Twilight" doctor and vampire patriarch Peter Facinelli has won the bet he made with his friend Rob DeFranco that he could get 500,000 Twitter followers by June 19. And on June 30, he'll bask in the glory of his victory when DeFranco will dance in a bikini to Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" on Hollywood Boulevard.

Facinelli was holding his breath there for a while when, due to a glitch in the Twitterverse, he wasn't sure he'd make the cut. "What I had heard was that Twitter was treating the followers like spam because so many were coming in, so they were getting tossed off," Facinelli told E! News. "So at the end of the day, I'll never know if my follower count is right, but I do know that we had over 500,000, which was the magic number for Rob doing the bikini dance."

Twilight and True BloodIf there's one thing that "Twilight" and "True Blood" fans can both agree upon, it's that vampires don't suck — well, they do literally suck, but... ah, you get the point.

No matter which one you're a fan of, both bloodthirsty franchises have strong support from their viewers. In a lot of cases, those viewers are active in the social media circuits like Twitter and Facebook. And while neither "Twilight" nor "True Blood" tends to edge the other out too badly in terms of online mentions, something very odd occurred to the contrary just last week.

OneRiot has compiled an interesting chart that details the amount of mentions that "Twilight" and "True Blood" each receive in the social media circuit — and while they're usually neck and neck, "True Blood" soared past "Twilight" on June 15, 2009, dwarfing the likes of Edward and Bella by eight times the normal amount of mentions. Dev PatelFROM MTV.COM: The lavish ice palace had gone silent. The Fire and Water nations were no longer waging acrobatic battle between its frosty walls, and from the snow covered steps to the blown-glass chandeliers hanging above the balconies, a beautiful tranquility had descended. Meanwhile, the production was in full, hectic swing across town, where another massive hangar housed another set for M. Night Shyamalan's gargantuan, fantastical adventure story, "The Last Airbender." Packs of extras wearing Samurai-like battle gear wandered here and there. Workers drilled and sawed and hammered. And Shyamalan and his star, Dev Patel of "Slumdog Millionaire" fame, were in the middle of it all, filming a pivotal fight scene.

Take after take, they kept at it, kept pushing to get it perfect, until the director decided to move on. "We'll live with it," Shyamalan said with a smile as MTV News watched from the sidelines.
