It's easy to get caught up in the thrill of silky charmeuse, workroom cat fights and tear-stained eliminations and forget that uber-fabu "Project Runway" is a competition for both designers and models. Well, no more. When the show kicks off its sixth season August 20 on Lifetime it will be joined by a sister series that shifts the spotlight from the designs to the catwalkers wearing them.
"Models of Runway" will chronicle highs and lows of the 16 mannequins vying for a $25,000 cash prize and a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine. The show, however, isn't a competition series in its purest sense. The models aren't being judged or given scores. In fact, judging from "PR," their only "challenge" will be walking down the runway, which means if a girl gets stuck with a dud designer, it's likely she'll be one of the first to go, talent or not.
Though, in recent seasons of "PR" the week's winner has been able to swap out his model for another, so I guess if one truly shines, a designer could spare her from being aufed. And before we get too nit picky let's be honest, we're really tuning in to see the drama behind the seams, right?
I'm willing to give "Models of Runway" a try, if only because "America's Next Top Model" isn't back until September.
Will you be tuning in to "Models of Runway"?
