Duke wasn't bluffing when he told Allie their love could do anything. It seems that now includes immortalizing their story on the stage. The 2004 Nicholas Sparks weeper that made stars out of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams may be Broadway bound.
Casting begins next month for a Wilmington, NC-based workshop of a musical version of "The Notebook," produced by "One Tree Hill" actress Bethany Joy Galeotti and musician Ron Aniello, with the intention of eventually moving the production to New York City.
"The workshop is intended to assist the creative team in visualizing, editing and critiquing the play as well as to garner Producer interest and investors," a statement on the musical's Web site reads.
You can bet Hollywood Crush will be one of the first in the ticket line when this musical hits town. But we'll be sorely disappointed if a few of our favorite moments don't get the musical touch. Here are our recommendations for the show (do you think could we get a producer credit for this?):
1. The carnival scene
For Allie and Noah's first meeting we envision something like the closing scene of "Grease," but with wingtips and without the flying car.
2. Noah restoring Allie's dreamhouse
Distraught over his lost love, Noah becomes a mad man, renovating the old waterfront mansion where he and Allie almost consumated their relationship. How about a rendition of "Whistle While You Work" done Marilyn Manson style? Anyone? Bueller?
3. Kissing in the rain
More than any other scene in this beloved movie, Allie and Noah's rain-soaked makeout epitomoizes "The Notebook." (Ryan and Rachel didn't win a "Best Kiss" MTV Movie Award for nothin'. Relive their sexy acceptance speech here. You're welcome.) The song for this sequence will have to be titled, "It Wasn't Over... It Still Isn't Over," right? Oh, we get giddy just thinking about it...
What scenes would you like to see included in a possible "Notebook" musical? Will you rush to the theater if/when it debuts?
