Last weekend at Comic-Con, I had the pleasure of meeting Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor whoâll be playing Caius in the âNew Moonâ movie. Heâs a fun, laid-back dude with a great sense of humor â all attributes which should endear him to âTwilightâ fans in the years to come. Unfortunately, it might also be the reason behind some statements he made to me during the interview.
âWe just all sit there, completely naked, for one scene," he told me about a scene he said was a flashback to when Dr. Carlisle Cullen met the Volturi. "Yeah, it's me, Michael Sheen and Christopher [Heyerdahl]; we just sit there, naked."
Being a reporter and a âTwilightâ fan who knows that a nude scene would be a bit out of place, I skeptically pressed him a bit. âSeriously?â I asked, and he replied âIâm deadly serious,â as you can see in the video here.
And so, we published our interview with Jamie the other day, it raised some eyebrows for obvious reasons, and this morning while at TwiCon I received this e-mail statement from âNew Moonâ director Chris Weitz:
I would like to put everyone's mind at rest and let them know that the
Volturi are not naked! Jamie (Campbell-Bower) has what you might call a
dry sense of humor and almost managed to convince me -- which is why he's
such a good actor. Anyway, be assured that, even though we do want the
look of the Volturi to be a bit of a surprise, they are always -- as in
the book! -- fully clothed.
best,
Chris Weitz
Furthermore, a rep from the studio explained:
There may have been some confusion lately regarding Jamie Campbell Bower
and his comments about filming a nude scene for âThe Twilight Saga: New Moon.â
For those that have had the opportunity to meet and/or talk to Jamie, you
know that he is absolutely hilarious. He often jokes around, even in
interviews, and has a great sense of humor. For those that haven't spoken
to him, you may be confused as to whether or not he was joking when he
made these comments.
Rest assured, as Chris Weitz's note to you explains, Jamie was just
joking.
Well, color me flabbergasted. It sure sounds to me like there wonât b any nude scenes in âNew Moonâ after all, even if Jamie was âdeadly serious.â Stay tuned, as weâll have plenty more on the fully-clothed scenes of âNew Moonâ in the months to come. And, of course, on November 20th, the proof will be in the vampire pudding.
What do you think about Jamieâs âdeadly seriousâ statement? Would you have liked to see such a scene, or are you glad he was kidding?
