The economy sucks, that's a fact. There are no jobs available, and fewer good jobs at that. As a college student, it seems almost daily I am faced with a story from friend after friend about how they were forced into retail or waitressing after graduation because there were no jobs open in their chosen field. Therefore, when I heard that Alexis Bledel's character Ryden Malby would be going through the same struggle in "Post Grad," which hits theaters today, it made me hope that the movie winds up being as realistic as it sounds.
When Alexis sat down with MTV News to talk about the film, she shared that when she was originally presented the script five years ago, the story did seem relatable, and even when the film went into production just a few years later, it still made sense. "It was a timely story when we shot it, which was before the economic crisis," she explained. "And then when [the crisis] happened, it just made it more so, but we had no idea that that would happen."
There have been enough movies, however, that have been reworked or canned because of a change in the real world (like Bryan Singers original "Battlestar Galactica" remake, which was discarded after September 11, for all you nerds out there). And, after hearing what Alexis has to say about the way "Post Grad" unfolds, maybe it should've taken a similar approach and been slightly reworked, as well.
We're not spoiling anything for you, Crushers, but the former Gilmore Girl even admits that the way the movie ends wasn't the smartest in regards to our current economic state. "If the story had taken place in this economic climate she probably would have made a different decision," she said of Ryden's grand finale.
Will you be seeing "Post Grad" this weekend? Why or why not?
