Now that you know the coveted first single off the "New Moon" soundtrack (which by the way, is already available for pre-order for only $10 on Amazon.com) is going to Death Cab For Cutie and their song "Meet Me on the Equinox," we bet you're wanting to know more ... more... more about the faces behind the band and whether or not they're going to do your beloved Saga justice.
Well, in short, the answer's yes: bassist Nick Harmer's already been to the promiseland (a.k.a. Forks, Washington) and he thinks it's an awesome setting for Stephenie Meyer's series. "Oh yeah, I've been there a bunch," he told MTV News' James Montgomery in a recent interview. "And I went before it was the place from the 'Twilight' books. It's definitely one of those Northwest towns you hit once or twice. It's part of your trip through [Washington's] peninsula. There's not a lot of civilization out on the coast — I'm not being disrespectful, there are no giant cities out there — it's just towns, and you stop at all of them to see what they're all about."
Of course the band is very happy to be given such a big opportunity (being attached to "Twilight," as we all know, leads to worldwide attention), but they say more important than the inevitable onslaught of fans was "to get the material right first," Nick admitted. "It tied into these films, especially 'New Moon,' because if you strip away all the vampirism and the werewolves and the Northwest and everything, basically, the 'Twilight' series is just a big romance novel. It's a big story about love, and that's a major theme for us."
The video for "Equinox" shoots next week in Toronto (yes, close to where "Eclipse" is currently filming), but the band's still not sure how it will pan out — well, except for that it won't be in a forest. "The safe route would be to go with the straight performance video, like that Paramore video," Nick said. "But I don't think we're going to be outside in the woods ... you know, been there, done that. I don't think we're going to try to cut a narrative in where we're all dressed up like vampires running around with fake teeth in [laughs]."
The "New Moon" soundtrack doesn't hit stores until Oct. 20, but Death Cab's debuting their single exclusively on MTV.com on Sunday, September 13, the day of the MTV Video Music Awards.
