After last week's creepy "Frenzy" episode of "True Blood," several characters' fates lie in the hands of mercurial maenad Maryann, who would gleefully sacrifice her best friend (if she had one) if it meant the God who comes would, uh, come. So who, if anyone, will die at the hands of the blood-hungry baddie? We don't know for sure, but news of one series regular's new gig left us wondering.
Mehcad Brooks, better known in Alan Ball's mystical world as Tara's boyfriend Eggs, has been cast as a lawyer on ABC's midseason replacement "The Deep End," set in a prestigious L.A. law firm, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article went on to note, "The casting raises questions about the future of his 'True Blood' character." You bet your bottle of synthetic blood it does!
We haven't read Charlaine Harris' "Sookie Stackhouse" novels on which the series is based, so we don't know Eggs' fate in the novel, but that doesn't seem to matter too much since Alan Ball has already diverged from his source material to save one beloved character (Lafayette played by Nelsan Ellis).
It's not unheard of for actors to do double duty either. Perky host Kelly Rippa was able to film "Live with Regis and Kelly" while working on her series "Hope and Faith," (though a talk show, admittedly, has a shorter taping schedule than a series). And news just came out today that Katherine Heigl will take a short hiatus from "Grey's Anatomy" to film the movie "Life as We Know It." And maybe, just maybe, Mehcad's filming schedules on the two series won't clash at all.
Personally, I'm hoping 28-year-old doesn't get the ax — or knife, or horns in the back or ... whatever. Not only do he and actress Rutina Wesley (who plays Tara) have great chemistry, but he's probably the only cast member that can compete against Ryan Kwanten in a "Mr. Abs of True Blood" contest.
Do you think Mehcad will be back for season 3?
