Over the course of the second season of "True Blood", the 1,000 year-old vampire sheriff Eric Northman solidified himself as one of the series' most compelling characters — not to mention the most crush-worthy by many of the show's viewers. Despite this, Eric has remained emotionally guarded despite his own obvious interest in Sookie Stackhouse ... but luckily for his fans, the actor behind the vampire isn't quite as squeamish when it comes to romance.
Alexander Skarsgård, who plays Eric on the HBO vampire drama series, recently participated in Santa Monica-based radio station KCRW's "Guest DJ Project," in which various cultural icons select and dedicate songs on the air. During his guest stint, Alex dedicated the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love" to a past girlfriend — a relationship that, by the sound of it, has all the fiery passion you'd expect from the actor's on-screen persona.
"I had this girlfriend a while ago, many years ago, and it was a very passionate relationship," the actor said of his past love. "I was very much in love with this girl, but after a few months we both realized we weren't good for each other. But it was one of those relationships that we didn't make each other happy, but every time we broke up, we ended up back together and that went on for almost three years. I don't know if you've experienced that, but it just killed me. It was really, really tough. I just tried to move on and so did she but we just couldn't."
Eventually, Alex and his unnamed ex-girlfriend were able to push past their regressive tendencies and end their tumultuous relationship. The actor, who reportedly may have found new love in the form of "True Blood" costar Evan Rachel Wood, said that he can even listen to "Ever Fallen in Love" without the pain attached to his former flame.
"Every time after a fight I would just put on my big headphones and I would crank up the volume and go, 'Pete Shelley freakin' gets it!'" he described of his experience with the song. "In a way, she will always be a part of me, but I don't have to listen to Buzzcocks and cry every day and night anymore. I can actually listen to it now and enjoy it because it's a great song."
