If you’ve seen "Juno," it’s pretty much a given Ellen Page has stolen your heart. Even if you’ve seen some of her creepier earlier work like “Hard Candy,” the name Ellen Page should pack a pretty serious punch. So when you heard that Ellen has teamed up with Drew Barrymore (in her directorial debut) for a film about roller derbies called "Whip It!" (out October 9!) hundreds of excited alarms should be going off in your head.
Marie Claire decided to devote their October issue to the new twosome (see their full cover after the jump) who, turns out, are now BFFs after shooting the movie together. Don’t believe me? Check out the shot of the two of them giving each other a peck on the lips (!) at the MC photo shoot.
“I first met Drew at the Chateau Marmont,” Ellen shared. “And it was a surreal moment for me in my life. You could just feel her warmth and kindness immediately, and the way she carried herself was just so grounded. So then it was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be great.’ And then it went into, ‘Oh, my God, I'm really crazy about this person.’ It just grew and grew and grew and grew and grew.”

Drew shared similar sentiments. Turns out after production shut down, Drew and Ellen and the rest of the cast (including the always fabulous Alia Shawkat from “Arrested Development”) stayed extremely close. Not only did Drew and Ellen spend this past New Years in Mexico together — playing Cranium, of all things — but they also regularly attend shows together and went to Vegas with the cast to celebrate Drew’s 34th and Ellen’s 22nd birthdays.
If you check out the photos from the shoot, you’ll notice a surprisingly feminine Ellen Page. She admits she is “T-shirt and jeans-y,” and also an avid sports player. Rarely is Ellen shown tapping into her feminine side, and the change is something she attributes entirely to Drew.

“But I think I'm getting way better at [photo shoots],” Ellen said. “I've been having more fun with it, and I owe that to Drew. Just being able to tap into more of a sensuous side or something. It felt good.”
“It's so screwed up for girls to think, Oh, because I don't have that cookie-cutter model body, it must mean I don't have the right body shape,” Drew agreed about opening up girls’ femininity. “And I love model bodies, but I just want women to embrace several body shapes. That's the thing I love about derby. It's really welcoming.”
What do you think of the cover and inside photos of Ellen and Drew? Do they make you want to see "Whip It" even more?
