Vampires, shape-shifters, maenads — oh my! The second season of "True Blood" comes to an end on Sunday and we're certainly on the edges of our seats about how it'll all turn out. Of course, we'll be watching our taped version of the finale after the hotly anticipated VMAs are over, which you're all doing as well ... right?!
If you haven't been following "True Blood" this season, don't worry, we've got you covered. From Dallas to Bon Temps, here's absolutely everything you need to know about season two of "True Blood" before the big finale. WARNING: MANY MANY BLOODY SPOILERS AHEAD!
The season kicked off right where the last one left off — Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her best friend Tara (Rutina Wesley) discovered a heartless, clawed up corpse in the back of Detective Andy Bellefleur's vehicle, which turned out to be Miss Jeanette, a fake exorcist that allegedly cured Tara's mother's alcoholism.
Jeanette's killer was none other than Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes), a devil-worshipping maenad with the ability to control the minds of all mortal beings. She began by warping Tara's soul, but before long, her influence extended to most of Bon Temps' population. Her mission: to sacrifice shape-shifter Sam Merlotte (Sam Tramell) to the God Who Comes — clearly something that Sam isn't so interested in.
Sadly for Sam, his closest allies have been preoccupied: telepathic Sookie and her vampire boyfriend Bill (Stephen Moyer) joined the mischievous Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) in Texas, where they attempted to track down the location of Eric's abducted maker,
Godric (Allan Hyde). In the end, it turned out that Godric has been captured by the Fellowship of the Sun, a vampire-hating church that Sookie's brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) was misguidedly a member of. Jason eventually came to his senses (after sleeping with the minister's wife) and he helped free Godric.
But there was no time to celebrate — Luke, one of Jason's old friends from the church, killed himself and many other vampires in a suicide bombing. Eric, injured in the explosion, tricked Sookie into sharing blood with him, thereby forging an unwitting romantic link between them. As a result, Sookie can't stop fantasizing about Eric despite her loving relationship with Bill.
Sookie, Jason and Bill eventually returned to Bon Temps only to discover that their friends and family have completely lost their minds to Maryann. When Sookie comes into contact with the maenad, the telepath eminates a great white light unlike anything she's ever done before, prompting Maryann to ask, "What are you?" It seems that Sookie doesn't have a clue, and neither do we!
In order to find out how to kill a maenad, Bill sought out the advice of the Vampire Queen of Louisiana (Evan Rachel Wood), but she warned that Maryann must actually believe her God has come in order to be killed. As a result, it's very possible that for Maryann to die, so too must Sam Merlotte.
With one episode left, Maryann is still in control of most of Bon Temps and even has Sookie in captivity; Bill and Sam are together, hopefully to go up against Maryann but possibly at Sam's peril; Andy and Jason are also clear-headed and armed to the teeth, but they aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the bunch; and Eric has also paid Queen Sophie-Anne a visit in order to learn how to kill a
maenad.
With everyone all over the place, who will be the knight in shining armor to kill Maryann and save the day? We'll just have to wait and see once the finale airs — after the VMA's, of course!
