We originally thought the full track list for the “New Moon” soundtrack was going to be released on Friday, but we're still waiting in anticipation to see what songs are going to be filling up our iPods come October 20 when the album is released.
Death Cab for Cutie is the only band to have released a song from the soundtrack (listen to “Meet Me At The Equinox” here!) and today MTV UK announced Muse would be remixing one of their tracks for the album as well.
“I spoke to the director (Chris Weitz) yesterday (and) he wants the track 'I Belong To You,' the sort of vaudeville piano track,” said singer Matt Bellamy. “He wants a rendition of that but the only thing with the new film is they want the songs to be exclusive to the film. So he’s asking if I mind doing, or if we mind doing an alternative version of it.”
Muse were also featured on the “Twilight” soundtrack with their hit "Supermassive Black Hole," and “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer had professed that Muse was one of her favorite bands long before the “Twilight” movie was a glimmer in Summit Entertainment’s eye.
The way Matt phrased his statement, however, shows how little progress has been made on the soundtrack. It sounds like some serious work needs to be done to have the CD ready to be shipped in less than a month if only one song has been recorded and ready.
The New York Times talked to “New Moon” music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas Thursday and said she was “confident” Thom Yorke (lead singer of Radiohead), Bon Iver and Band of Skulls would be on the soundtrack. The NYT asked Alexandra about rumors of The Killers and Grizzly Bear being on the soundtrack, but said she wouldn’t comment.
She did say this much: “This is a much more somber movie than 'Twilight.’ There is a lot of love lost, so the artists that are going to make up the soundtrack reflect that longing — a lot of acoustic instruments, a lot of a cappella singing.”
What do you think of the addition of Muse to the "New Moon" soundtrack?
