November is going to be an amazing month. “New Moon” finally hits theaters, you get to whip out your turkey (or tofurkey, if that's your thing), spend time with the family, and Elle ups the ante on cover stories with its “Women of Hollywood” issue by having not one but five covers to celebrate some of the biggest female talent of our generation.
Headlining the bunch is Mrs. Tom Cruise herself, Katie Holmes. She talks with Elle about the importance of her family, saying her daughter Suri would sit on her lap on the Broadway set of “All My Sons.” "In my own life, my whole world really revolves around family," she said. “I do what I need to do, but it’s like, ‘How is everybody else doing?’ And it’s wonderful for me as an actress to put some of that into a character.”
Recently engaged (to John Krasinski, no less!) Emily Blunt also got a spot of gorgeous glory on Elle’s cover, saying, “I love playing character parts, because I’m not pigeonholed into trying to remain young forever to play the ingénue or romantic lead.” After catching an eyeful of Emily in our exclusive look at “The Young Victoria,” and loving her roles in films from “The Devil Wears Prada” to “Sunshine Cleaning,” we can agree that the young Brit is far from being pigeonholed.
Julianne Moore gets the third honor, talking to Elle about the characters she is drawn to. “I think my connection to acting has been through reading,” she said. “I’m interested in scripts. People ask me, 'What role are you dying to play?' It’s really, What story do I want to be in?”
One of the — arguably — best actresses to come out this generation, Renee Zellweger, shared her view on the balance between a personal life and a career: "A friend of mine couldn’t decide between moving to New York or staying in L.A., and another friend said, 'Do Everything!' I thought, That’s it, do everything.”
Zoe Saldana is the relative newcomer to the bunch, getting a lot of attention for her role as Uhura in “Star Trek” earlier this year. But with another blockbuster role in the form of “Avatar” coming out in December, Zoe looks like she could be one of the next greats. When asked by Elle how it feels to be known as beautiful in Hollywood, she answered, “I’m sorry, but it’s sexy to know that guys find you attractive. It’s empowering.”
What do you think of Elle’s picks of the five most cover-worthy women in Hollywood? Which cover would you be most likely to pick up?
