Not only was “Juno” the little movie from 2007 that could, but it’s the little movie that’s still doing. Following the success of the film, Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody moved onto bigger projects like the Megan Fox-starring “Jennifer’s Body” (yeah, whatever, it flopped, we still love them) and the Steven Spielberg-produced Showtime comedy “United States of Tara.”
Director Jason Reitman’s newest film “Up In The Air” has been getting plenty of buzz on the film festival circuit, and Michael Cera has brought nerds-as-the-romantic-lead to a new level.
And then there’s Ellen Page. God, we love Ellen! Her newest film “Whip It!" is getting plenty of critic and box office love, and now her razor-sharp wit is getting its own special attention.
The Hollywood Reporter announced Ellen would be following in the footsteps of Diablo and will be penning and exec-producing the new HBO show “Stitch N’ Bitch” with “Whip It!” bffs Alia Shawkwat and Sean Tillmann. News on the street is, they might even eventually star in it.
THR says the show follows two “painfully cool hipster girls” who relocate from Brooklyn to LA in the hopes of becoming artists “of any kind.” There’s no news yet on whether the show will involve the knitting book of the same name which has spawned “Stitch N’ Bitch” parties across the nation, but some deep dark part of us is hoping that it might.
While Sean (also known as Har Mar Superstar and Sean Na Na) is a bit off our radar, we’re excited to see Ellen and Alia moving on to pursue work together. And while Alia will always have our hearts for her role (opposite Michael Cera!) as Maeby in “Arrested Development,” we couldn’t have picked a cooler girl for her to be hanging out with. Maybe they share stories about swapping saliva with Michael? We can only hope.
