Apparently November is the month of multiple-actress magazine covers. Elle recently revealed five different covers for its "Women of Hollywood" issue featuring Katie Holmes, Emily Blunt, Julianne Moore, Renee Zellwegger and Zoe Saldana. Now Vogue is getting in on the act with its November issue, which stars the actresses of the movie musical "Nine." Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Kate Hudson take a walk on a Malibu beach for legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, festooned in varying shades of plum and burgundy for the pretty cover shot.
The film, which also stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Sophia Lauren, Judi Dench and Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson, is based on the Broadway production of the same name (itself a take off of the 1963 Fellini film "8 1/2"). The story centers around Guido Contini (Daniel), a famous film director who struggles to juggle all the women in his life (think: wife, mistress, muse, agent and mother).
While several stars already had musical backgrounds—Nicole in "Moulin Rouge" and Fergie with her Black Eyed Peas, of course—many of the actresses were eager to get their feet wet in the movie musical.

“I spent most of my childhood singing and dancing and just never had the chance to do it professionally," said Kate. "So when I got the chance to work with [director] Rob [Marshall], I was so excited, I was out of my mind."
French actress Marion agreed. “It’s been my dream to do an American musical. When I was a child, Annie was my favorite. I just never thought I would get to do it.”

For Nicole, the film was what drew her back to Hollywood after the birth of daughter Sunday. “I had no desire to work after I had my daughter, but to lure me back, this movie was the only way.”
Originally slated for a November 29 release, the movie musical was pushed back to a limited release on December 18 and a wide release on December 25.
What do you think of the ladies on the cover of Vogue? Are you excited to see "Nine"?
