Lindsay Lohan is a mess. This is something anyone who has some contact with entertainment media has known for years. In light of her most recent fiasco at Paris Fashion Week, UK newspaper The Sunday Times' Style magazine decided to write what seems to be an expose on just exactly how screwed up the life of Lindsay is.
"The first thing you notice is how tiny she is, then what a large bosom she has," The Times notes. "Her pale skin has been sprayed the colour of a ginger-snap biscuit and the lines etched into her freckled forehead make her look at least 10 years older than she is. She orders an iced water in a voice honed by too many cigarettes and a lifetime of late nights."
Not the most gentle description of someone who has become a tabloid favorite, but in recent years, Lindsay has been anything but gentle. The newspaper describes her as "one of the most notorious young women of the age," detailing her cocaine addiction, drunk-driving offenses, love affair with Samantha Ronson and severely criticized work as Emanuel Ungaro's fashion artistic advisor. Her unreliable tendencies lead The Times to question whether Lindsay would even show up to the interview (clearly, she did).
Though reviews were incredibly heavy handed about Lindsay's Emanuel Ungaro collection: replete with teeny party dresses and heart-shaped nipple pasties, the negative response didn't seem to pull Lindsay down.
“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion," she said. "I didn’t expect everyone to be completely loving the collection. It is the same with everything I have done. I knew that people were going to target me. I am a target. I don’t know why I am, but I am, and I accept that. I just don’t pay attention to it.”
Granted in many ways Lindsay has made herself a target over the years, but The Times' article is incredibly harsh as though Lindsay did some personal offense to them. Shouldn't the response we give to this creature be pity, not derision? She made some unfortunate choices but those choices seem to come hand in hand with being a child star. Drew Barrymore was snorting cocaine at age 13 but has turned out to be one of Hollywood's biggest sweethearts. Shouldn't we refrain from writing these types of stories, and instead be giving her the space she needs to get out of this many years long rut?
In regards to the paparazzi's obsession with her, Lindsay shared, "I don’t notice it. There are times when it drives me nuts, but it’s been going on since I was 13. Ten years. I don’t know if I can change it. When I don’t give people opportunities to write something, they make something up. It’s flattering that they are that interested in me. They build you up to take you down.”
The Times' response? "All in a day's work for Ms. Lohan."
