With "New Moon" opening Friday and "Eclipse" due June 2010, it seems about time we cast our gaze forward to "Breaking Dawn." And no, it's not too early. Sure, the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's forth (and for now final) vampire romance has yet to be announced, but that didn't stop us from asking star Taylor Lautner about the "Twilight Saga"'s larger-than-life finale.
"I'm looking forward to the whole pack splitting up, that could be cool," the 19-year-old said, revealing which scene he is most excited to film for "Breaking Dawn." Taylor wasn't quite so sure, however, who should direct the last installment.
"That's really hard because I think all the directors we've had, have matched the films perfect," he explained. "Catherine [Hardwicke] was able to capture that relationship and the teen angst of everything. And then Chris [Weitz] was perfect for everything going on in 'New Moon'—all of those relationships. Chris was awesome. He would dive into the characters and their stories with us and we just had several talks. And we were so close. And 'Eclipse' is going to be amazing visually. We're at war the whole time. And there's nobody better than David Slade."
So what's to be done with "Breaking Dawn"—a novel Taylor described as both "a good mixture of all that" and "out of left field"? "I don't know if the right answer would be taking one of the directors that have already done it or trying to find somebody that's a great mixture of them all," he replied.
Even though audiences have yet to sink their teeth into "New Moon," fan support is largely behind Chris returning for the final chapter. In fact, a recent Fandango survey revealed 57 percent of voters wanted the "Golden Compass" director for the last movie, while stars like Robert Pattinson and Jamie Campbell Bower have voiced interest in Gus Van Sant and Tim Burton, respectively. I guess only Alice Cullen can see how this will all turn out.
What do you think about Taylor's comments? And who do you think should direct "Breaking Dawn"?
