Kristen Stewart made two stops this morning on the New York City-based talk show circuit, with appearances on both "Today" (pictured) and "Live with Regis and Kelly." In addition to answering the usual "Twilight" mania and "New Moon" setup questions, the actress also talked about playing Joan Jett, indie movies, and made a definitive decision in the Team Jacob versus Team Edward debate. Reiterating the stance she took when speaking with MTV News at the "New Moon" press junket a couple of weeks ago, Kristen told Regis and Kelly that she'd side with the vampire.
Because she's probably had to do this about a gazillion times already, Kristen had her "New Moon" summary down pat. "The really perfect love that we've presented in the first one is completely shattered," she said on "Regis and Kelly" (her outfit? a brown sweater dress). "[Bella's] best friend is a werewolf and her boyfriend is a vampire and they don't like each other very much... She discovers there are different levels of loving someone."
Surprisingly, Reege led not with "Twilight" but with questions about Joan Jett and "The Runaways" movie Kristen shot in between "New Moon" and "Eclipse." She didn't have to audition for the movie, but it was incredibly nerve-wracking to have Joan on set all the time. "It would’ve been worse had she seen me once a week after seeing dailies and said 'So, now that I can't do anything about it, good job.' She's become one of my closest friends."
The "Today" show gang also asked about "Runaways." "This was such a seminal part of [Joan's] life," Kristen told them. "It was the most important thing in the world to her. She changed rock and roll for women, straight up, in every way."
Not wanting to waste time, Al Roker got straight to the good stuff: the Wolf Pack's perpetual state of shirtlessness. Kristen, who was dressed in grey sweater and black leggings, defended the boys, saying, "They have good reasons not to be wearing shirts. They run at 108 degrees and when they phase their clothes rip off. It's not just because they look good."
Matt Lauer went the more serious route and rattled off the familiar "Twilight" statistics before asking Kristen if the enormity of it all registers with her. "It does, just in the way that I'm so used to doing movies that people don't see," she said. Later, she mentioned that it's great because the "Twilight Saga" films reach such a large audience. "In a way it's actually the coolest opportunity that an actor could be given because we not only get to explore our character for more than six weeks, which is what I'm used to on an independent movie, it’s also — I'm never going to be able to share what I love with so many people. This is once in a lifetime. We make movies for people. I'll never have this [again]. They call it a phenomenon for a reason."
The "New Moon" stars will be appearing on talk shows all week, so keep reading Hollywood Crush's Twilight Watch for the latest.
