Miley Cyrus is leaving her sometimes goofy character of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana behind to play Ronnie, the musical prodigy of divorced parents, in the new Nicolas Sparks movie, "The Last Song." The trailer was just released, and in it, Miley seems to be attempting to make a legitimate move as a real Hollywood player.
Ronnie spends a summer with her estranged dad, who doesn’t seem to get her (especially because she doesn't want to go to Julliard), and — bonus! — meets a hottie local (Liam Hemsworth). Eventually, the family starts to mend any misunderstandings that may be lingering, and Ronnie and her dad even start to bond. Plus, Miley falls in love with said local, who apparently is a volleyball player with his eye on the Ivy League.
We get that the film (don't miss the new stills also released this week), which opens in April 2010, is from the same guy as "The Notebook," but it definitely has a "What A Girl Wants" vibe (paging: Amanda Bynes) to it as well. At least it doesn't take place in another country!
"I changed a lot when I was in Tybee Island [Georgia, filming 'Last Song']," Miley explained to MTV News recently about the flick. "I feel like art really does imitate life. So just showing this movie, I feel like I'm really showing a part of my growth as a person as well. So I'm really excited for people to see it, just because of what it means to me, personally."
