His native Canada may have celebrated Turkey Day a few weeks ago, but we'll wager our Aunt Bertha's candied yams that it's not too late to give thanks to our favorite actor this year: the talented Ryan Reynolds.
It's plain to see why the 33-year-old takes our Thanksgiving honor. Rockin' bod aside (you saw those abs on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, right?), the actor scored big this year with the summer blockbuster "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and established indie cred alongside Kristen Stewart in the coming-of-age "Adventureland." And then there's "The Proposal," which holds the title for highest-grossing romantic comedy (in the U.S.) ever, leading us to wonder whether Ryan's the new king of the genre. But the star certainly isn't sitting on his laurels, throughout 2009 he lined up several high-profile projects for the coming year including an "X-Men" spin-off featuring his Wade Wilson/Deadpool character and the lead in DC Comics' "Green Lantern." When MTV News caught up with Ryan to extend our congratulations on his well-deserved honor, he reflected a bit on his stellar 2009.

When MTV sat down with "The Twilight Saga" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, one of the big questions she addressed was the inclusion of Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) as the reason for Harry Clearwater's (Graham Greene) death.
"In the book, Harry Clearwater's death, heart attack is mentioned as something that's off screen, although it plays a crucial role in the structure of the books," said Melissa. "Reading that it was Harry Clearwater's heart attack it just gave me the idea of, why don't we see this? Stephenie [Meyer] doesn't specify what caused the heart attack, so I decided, well, you know, if could be caused by something startling him. It could be caused by fear."

As Disney continues to churn out TV-turned-pop stars, (or in their defense, is it pop-stars-turned-TV?) it’s hard to tell who’s doing what, next. MTV News was able to catch up with “Wizard’s of Waverly Place” star Selena Gomez on the American Music Awards red carpet; the glamorous songstress mentioned new details about her band The Scene and the upcoming video off their debut album, Kiss & Tell.
The video for single titled, “Naturally,” — a jump-on-the-dance-floor tempo that serve to describe the teen's perfect male counterpart who connects with her just as naturally as “thunder and lightning” — is "coming out soon," she said, adding, "I shot it a couple weekends ago." Selena revealed she is excited about the music video because fans will get a chance to see a whole new side of her. "The video is very different from any other video that I've done," she says. "It has a lot more fierce clothes and a lot of fun colors."

For the third and final part to our exclusive interview with the woman behind the "New Moon" wardrobe closet, costume designer Tish Monaghan, we're heading to Volterra, Italy where beneath the Tuscan sunshine lives a coven of vampires who posesses incredible power ... and style. After you venture to Europe, don't forget to travel back to Forks for our look at the costumes of Edward and Bella and Jacob and the Cullens.
TIME AND PUNISHMENT
Tish’s starting off point for creating the look of (very old) Volturi? “What I did originally was go back as far in antiquity as I could to where there were visual representations of judicial gowns in sculptures and paintings. I wanted to find something that the audience would recognize as an official robe, but still have the flavor of the 14th or 15th century.” The heavy wool robes were made by the costume department, though each had a different kind of trim and sleeve detail.

When it comes to co-stars, few young actresses are as lucky as Claire Danes. "The Romeo + Juliet" star got to work with Leonardo DiCaprio back when he was just making his mark on the movie industry, and now she gets to film alongside rising Disney star Zac Efron for the upcoming flick "Me and Orsen Welles". Now, we've definitely noticed that Zac and Leo have a lot in common (and by a lot, we mean that they're both really, really handsome and go by three-initial names). But apparently Claire has noticed some similarities too.
"They're obviously both very gifted," she told MTV News. "They're both charismatic and gorgeous." Yeah, we got the gorgeous part. That's not all though, Claire also added that the two also approach their careers similarly.

Thanks to our brother blog, Splash Page, we've been able to give you exclusive peeks at "Female Force: Stephenie Meyer," the comic book biography of the famed "Twilight" author. But now, we have something even better for you to chew on: an exclusive (and very dramatic) reading of the comic book for your own at home entertainment.
Set to ominous music and read by a MTV News staffer (who, uh, prefers to remain anonymous), the video below will take you through the pages of Stephenie's life and how she came to birth the Saga that would go on to make her a household name. So, if you don't feel like you've given the woman behind Edward, Jacob and Bella enough of a pat on the back yet, then here's your chance!

Oh my, my. If the Men's Health, Teen Vogue and multiple Entertainment Weekly covers didn't convert you to Team Jacob, may I present the 17-year-old's latest, which could make even Rosalie Hale a believer. Feast your eyes on a wet T-shirt clad Taylor Lautner grasping a football and flexing his 20-pack on the cover of the latest Rolling Stone (on newsstands tomorrow). Now, we spied the chiseled "New Moon" star posing for these shots on the beach last month, but, um, wow. The results far exceeded our expectations. If you eventually make it past the cover, you'll read about the actor's "Twilight" stardom, that other Taylor and getting bullied as a kid.
From his numerous talk show appearances over the last few weeks, it's clear the young star is humble about his meteoric rise to fame, even admitting to RS that this really could have happened to any Joe Schmo cast as the shapeshifting best friend of Bella Swan. “I was just lucky enough to be the one that has that opportunity. I'm so grateful. It’s 'Twilight.' It’s not me personally," he explained.

The popularity of "New Moon" doesn't seem like it will be slowing down anytime soon, not at the box office nor as a Twitter topic. Of course, Twihards will be happy to know that the film's cast and crew are more than appreciative. While Taylor Lautner doesn't have his own Twitter (unacceptable!), the official "Twilight" twitter page passed along a message from him to fans, "From Taylor - Thanks for your incredible support of New Moon. Your passion for The Twilight Saga is the sole reason we're #1 across the world!" It seems no one is more psyched to be taking the helm of the next chapter than "Eclipse" director David Slade who wrote, "The wild success of New Moon this weekend is both humbling & exciting as we continue Post on Eclipse. Thanks to you lot for the support." Ah, just seven more months to go ...
But, the "Twilight" family weren't the only ones with something to be thankful this weekend (if only we a had a holiday to celebrate our gratitude ... hmmm ...), just ask non-vampire cutie Joseph Gordon-Levitt (pictured). The "(500) Days of Summer" star took over hosting duties on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend and all that hard work certainly paid off (did you SEE that opening monologue?) JGL took to his Twitter to give love to the home of "SNL," posting, "Good bye, New York, thanks again..." No, Joe, thank you!

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with staff members. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
Taylor Swift was Spotted! leaving her hotel in the UK yesterday, looking like a doll, while rocking a layered look with multiple scarves and some big hoop earrings. Taylor jetted to London recently to perform at Wembley Area — where she also accepted her five American Music Award wins (including the coveted Artist of the Year award). We're hoping the singer, who is working on a movie and a line of greeting cards, is getting some much deserved downtime during her stay.
To check out Taylor's style click on the photo above and find out which happy couple walked the red carpet below the jump.

Book fans are all too familiar with the fear that our favorite novel will be utterly destroyed when it's adapted for the screen. Can you imagine what it's like to be the author of a novel that's about to go through that process? Lauren McLaughlin was a film producer and screenwriter, working on such films as "American Psycho," before she wrote the gender-bending YA novels "Cycler" and "Recycler." But when "Cycler" was optioned for the big screen, she found herself on the other side of the process. Here, she tells the Book Report all about it.
Turning a novel into a movie is fraught with hazards. I know this intimately after adapting my own novel, "Cycler," into a screenplay. When I first set out to do this, it was like déjà vu all over again. "Cycler" began its life as a screenplay some time in the early '90s. It was a project I worked on in my off hours while I was producing and writing other people's movies. Then, one day in 2000, I decided to try my hand at writing fiction. It was only supposed to be an exercise, but it changed everything for me. Within months, I had decided to abandon my film career and pursue novel-writing full time. It was only then that I was finally able to unlock the story at the heart of "Cycler." It was, I was convinced, meant to be a novel, not a movie.
