Carrie Underwood is probably more insightful than most 26-year-olds, and she’s sharing her life lessons in the latest issue of Esquire magazine. The country-turned-pop princess has experienced her share of heartbreak, love, luck and success, and she’s dishing it all in a very candid interview.
As for her thoughts on her career, Carrie recalls her early days: “I was so nervous when I was on my way to L.A. I'd never been on a plane, and I was going alone. I kind of got teary-eyed. My dad was driving, and he said, 'If you want to go home, we can go home, and you never have to think about this again.' And I thought, If I don't go, I'm choosing for this not to happen. It will be my choice. So I figured it would be easier for me to get kicked off 'American Idol' than to have it be my own decision.”
Carrie also admits that when it comes to trusting others, “people can take your words and make them into something awful and something you never meant it to be.” Hmmm wonder if she's speaking directly to the tabloids?
No matter how famous she has become, though, Carrie still remains humble. She recalls, “I remember when I first started headlining, thinking, They paid money. I remember being young and saving up my allowance to see an Alan Jackson concert. And I was like, these kids are saving their allowance.”
And when asked if “Cowboy Casanova” was written about ex-boyfriend Tony Romo? “No. I would never immortalize a guy that did me wrong. I would never give him that much credit.” Yeah, Carrie, you take that wheel!
