Get ready to bust a move, Crushers! Duane Adler, the man behind hit dance films “Step Up” and “Save the Last Dance” has a new challenge. He’s set to rework the screenplay and direct the teen flick “Jump Around,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Jump Around" is based on a bunch of high schoolers who unite to form a Double Dutch jump-rope team and go on to compete for a spot in an international battle of the jump rope all-stars. No word on if a rival school will try to steal their moves (ala "Bring It On"), but we bet they'll be a plot line involving something of the sort. It should be noted that this year, Double Dutch became an official sport in NYC schools. (Raise your hand if you want to instill that physical activity in your local gym, too!)
Wind Dancer film executives Matt Williams and Judd Payne will produce the film. Their partner on the project is Granat Entertainment Vice President Jared Mass, who brought “Jump Around” to the company. Williams had to say of the movie, "We went to the Apollo Theater this year to see these kids in action, and the dance moves are truly ground-breaking."
"Step Up" gained critical acclaim, making over 100 million in the box office and fielding two sequels. The film also is notorious for making Channing Tatum famous. Adler has become known for his dance films with his most recent being “Make It Happens” in 2008 featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead. His film “Venice Beach” is also in development with Ne-Yo set to star.
