It's a "Glee"-ful morning, Crushers. I'm "Walking on Sunshine." "Dancing With Myself." Though "You Can't Always Get What You Want," we couldn't "Smile" more broadly at the news our favorite musical series scored four Golden Globe nominations this morning, the most of any television show. But "Glee" is just one of several television nominations we're over the moon for.
In addition to its nomination for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical, the FOX newcomer scored acting nods for Lea Michele, who plays Rachel; Matthew Morrision, who plays Mr. Schuester; and Jane Lynch, who plays Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester. Lea and Matthew truly are triple threats—acting, singing and dancing through the halls of William McKinley High week after week. We're glad to see their hard work pay off in more than just ratings.
Another Hollywood Crush favorite that sank its teeth into this year's noms was HBO's sexy vampire series "True Blood." Though it was snubbed at this year's Emmys, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been a fan from the start, once again recognizing the series with a Best Television Series, Drama nomination. Star Anna Paquin also scored two nods, one for her work as Sookie Stackhouse (which she scored a GG for last year) and another for the television movie "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler," which I have yet to see. Any Crushers out there catch it? Not to sound ungrateful, but two noms seem a bit paltry for this fantastically engaging series. Where is Alexander Skarsgård's nomination?
We'd also like to send kudos to former "Friends" star Courtney Cox for her "Cougar Town" nod. Though her acting is a bit campy, we can't help but think nominations like this will keep her revolving door of hot men open for business. Meow! Also deserving of praise is her ABC neighbor "Modern Family," which scored a nod in the same series category as "Glee." Oh, the decisions! "Don't Stop Believin'" there will be some touch choices ahead.
And In the nominations we're not so keen about category is the perennially nominated "Entourage" and its star Jeremy Piven. Though the series did improve this past season, we can't help but think it's long past its heyday. Why reward a show that's no longer fresh or innovative? And while Jeremy's Ari may have been a revelation in the series' early years, the constant yelling and homophobia is growing tired.
The Golden Globes air January 17th on NBC and MTV News will have it covered every which way, with photos, interviews, analysis, live blogs and more!
Which television nominations are you stoked for, Crushers? And which had you singing the blues?
