Earlier this month, the stars of the upcoming movie musical "Nine" premiered their Golden Globe-nominated film in London, and last night the cast were back Stateside for another debut at New York City's Ziegfeld Theatre. You know what two premieres mean—two opportunities to critique their red carpet style!
Kate Hudson, one of our stand-outs from the London premiere, opted for a less whimsical sequined black mini by Chanel, which we would have like much better without that odd train that gave her the appearance of having a tail. Costar Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson, who missed the first premiere because of singing duties at the "Grammy Nominations Concert Live!" more than made up for her previous absence, looking every inch the Grecian goddess in a drapey, one-shoulder white Marchesa gown and long, flowing locks. Also among last time's best dressed was Penelope Cruz whose shiny red gown didn't quite hit the same high note as her icy Ralph Lauren confection.
One starlet whose red carpet look got back in tune was Nicole Kidman. The leggy lady showed off her gams in a pretty little black Prada dress festooned with floral applique. Costar Daniel Day-Lewis also cut a finer form, donning a black fedora and gray tweed coat.
And like Fergie, who was also MIA in London, Marion Cotillard looked brilliant in white with a strapless column gown topped by strands of black beads.
Also celebrating at the soiree were pop icon Madonna and her daughter Lourdes Leon. Madge's black bustier Dolce & Gabbana dress and opera-length gloves remind me a lot of the ensemble she wore to the 1997 Golden Globes with Lourdes' dad Carlos as her date. What do you think? As always, Lourdes looked punk-rock cool (and a bit like her mother circa 1984) in a frilly D&G dress and neckfull of baubles. And instead of baseball boyfriend (who might reportedly be her ex-bf now) Alex Rodriguez, Kate opted to bring mom Goldie Hawn as her date, who was super chic in a black Christian Dior fringed dress topped with a white stole.
While most stars were on their best sartorial behavior, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen deserved a citation for their crimes against fashion. Mary-Kate sported a frumpy black dress with a patch work jacket while Ashley seemed to have skinned a Muppet to craft that hairific black jacket.
Thankfully, the always-graceful Naomi Watts gave us something good to talk about with her stunning magenta Marchesa sheath dress, as did "Entourage" star Emmanuelle Chriqui, who looked beautiful in a form- fitting gray metallic bandage dress.
Who had your favorite look at last night's "Nine" premiere?
