In the past few years, a quiet yet remarkably talented actress by the name of Rachel McAdams has worked her way to the silver screen, and now she's also made her way to the cover of Vogue. Posing in a flower printed red Dolce & Gabbana dress and matching red stilettos, the “Sherlock Holmes” star graces the January 2010 issue. In the mag, which hits stands on December 22, the actress talks working with Lindsay Lohan, her fascination with soap operas and much more.
In 2004, Rachel's career jump-started when she starred in “Mean Girls” playing queen bee Regina George alongside Lindsay. “I just remember marveling about how much [Lindsay] knew as an actor, how much she understood," Rachel recalled. "She did very few takes and had this naturalness to her. And beyond that, I was 26 at the time. I’d be asked, ‘Where do you go out?'"
And while the actress who made "Boo, you whore" a common catchphrase among teenage girls, Rachel reveals that she wasn’t anything like her narcissistic character. "My mother never put an emphasis on looks. She let us grow up on our own time line. She never forced any beauty regimen into my world." In fact, mom didn’t even put a heavy emphasis on shaving either, which often made a high-school-aged Rachel the subject of jokes about hairy legs. "'Why didn’t you tell me?'" she remembered asking her mom later on.

But before all the glitz and glamour of fame, the actress admits to Vogue that her “perfect day” involved more TV and not so much of a rain-soaked Ryan Gosling. Looking back to 1995, Rachel recalls: "I grew up watching so much television. I was really into soap operas. I’d begin with 'Days of our Lives,' then 'Another World,' and finish off with 'General Hospital,'" she said. "And before dinner I’d watch 'Oprah.' I would fake sick all the time to the point where I’d convince myself I was sick. In high school I really didn’t pay attention. I took the bare minimum to get by." But it’s clear, that this woman’s connection to television has paid off as she’s slowly surfaced as one of Hollywood’s new league of defining actresses.
Diane Keaton even had a few kind words to share. "Such a brilliant actress—not like Meryl, but she has that kind of intelligence. That brain is substantial, and if you have that along with a face you can’t take your eyes off, it’s so compelling. It’s rare."
Thespian pal Diane is also a good sounding board for Rachel when it comes to relationships. "The first thing Diane always asks me is about my love life. I thwart her as I do everyone else," Rachel, who has famously dated Hollywood hotties like Ryan Gosling and Josh Lucas, tells the mag. The actress, however, is currently single and claims she's not in any rush to find Mr. Right. "I'm pretty good on my own, and I like just getting out and walking, which seems very rudimentary."
What do you think of Rachel's Vogue cover and inside story?
