It’s a sad day for daytime television (especially for fans of daytime TV who love to learn about off-the-wall, introspective, and/or heartwarming topics that range from nose picking obsessions to child brides). After five seasons, Tyra Banks is calling it quits and ending her Daytime Emmy-winning talk show in spring 2010. The announcement came as a shock to fans, but they should be happy for Tyra, who has big plans for the future.
"My next huge steps will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are,” Tyra told People. "This will be the last season of 'The Tyra Show,'” she continued. “I’ve been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years.”
Word on the street is that Tyra will focus on Bankable Studios, her N.Y.-based film production company, which is currently reviewing possible projects. Sticking to her mission, the former supermodel aims to bring “positive images of women to the big screen." Though Tyra will embark on new projects, a source told Peoplethat she is still sad to leave her show. “Tyra is sad because she’ll be missing so much of the daily connection to her viewers, but excited at the same time to be taking on a new challenge.”
She will, however, continue her work on "America's Next Top Model" (cycle 15 is set to begin in February) and on her ABC show "True Beauty.
In an announcement on her website, Tyra tells fans: “There’s a lot cooking right now and a lot of fire burning in my heart. And I salute you my amazing family of viewers; without you there never would have been a Tyra Show. I really love you all.”
Are you sad to see "The Tyra Show" go?
