"Friday Night Lights" actress Minka Kelly and baseballer Derek Jeter are engaged. At least that's the rumor swirling around the Internet faster than you can say "PLAY BALL!" The New York Post is reporting that Minka and her Yankee are planning to wed at the Oheka Castle later this year. The Long Island estate is getting lots of action in the headlines lately as it's the same location that Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa got married at in December. (A rep for Minka had not responded to MTV News request for comment to confirm the rumors by press time.)
With buzz spreading that Minka and the shortstop are making it official and are "secretly engaged," Hollywood Crush has decided to take a look at the rest of our favorite starlet-and-athlete relationships. Rihanna and L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp were also recently seen snuggling up , so we're now proclaiming this love of sports the a current romantic trend among the rich and famous (Kate Hudson, you barely slipped by).
Former "Privileged" and "Gossip Girl" star Joanna Garcia and her Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher joined Minka and Derek at the World Series parade last year. The duo went public with their relationship last fall — in September Nick told Sports Illustrated, "She is my lady. Joanna is my lady."
The aforementioned Rihanna and Matt Kemp heated things up in Cabo San Lucas over the holidays. But while they were getting frisky in Mexico, Carrie Underwood and Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher got engaged right before Christmas. He got her a ring you can probably see from space.
The Kardashian sisters (er, minus Kourtney — she has a thing for hair gel Scott Disick) love themselves a sports star: Kim and her New Orleans Saints football star Reggie Bush are back on scoring touchdowns, and Khloe married LA Laker Lamar Odom in September after a very, very, very short engagement. (Take that Katy Perry and Russell Brand!)
Indianapolis Colts receiver Hank Baskett found his "Girl Next Door" in Playmate Kendra Wilkinson (they wed last June and their baby boy arrived in December), and Gisele Bundchen left former beau Leonardo DiCaprio in the dust for her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. They also welcomed their first child together, a son, in December.
And while some ladies adore football Hilary Duff (like Carrie Underwood) found love in the hockey world with Edmonton Oilers' Mike Comrie — they've been together since 2007. "He’s generous, caring, funny. We just laugh our heads off, which I need in my life. He’s unique," she gushed to Us Weekly last year. "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria married her athlete, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, in France in 2007.
Which one of these couples is your favorite? And who did we forget on our starlet-and-athlete list?
