For every red carpet success, there are about 10 epic fails. Sad, yes, but also true. We're not sure where these ladies went wrong during the award show dress-picking process, but we do know that someone needs to set them straight. Which is why we're here, of course. We've combed through all the dresses from this weekend's Screen Actor's Guild Awards and picked out what we feel are the six worst ensembles. Here's hoping these mistakes aren't repeated!
So, after Anna Paquin's Golden Globes dress disaster, we had hope, real hope, that the actress would bounce back for the SAG Awards. Alas, we were disappointed .. .big time. The "True Blood" star showed up to the carpet in a short, printed Alexander McQueen dress more suited for the after party than the awards ceremony. Nonetheless, the dress was a major downgrade even from her Globes ensemble. Although, on the flip side, at least the shoes matched this time! Another red carpet offender was Drew Barrymore. The "Whip It" star hit the red carpet in a dark blue dress, that we didn't completely dislike. In fact, from the waist-up the corset style top wasn't half bad (the waist-down, however, is another story). What really hurt her look however was the makeup, or better yet, lack thereof. Really Drew, would a dash of lipstick have hurt?
OK, so we here at Hollywood Crush are not anti-feathers. In fact, we like them (case in point: Marion Cotillard's SAGs gown had feathers, and we put her on our best dressed list!). So, where did Katrina Bowden go wrong you ask? Well, her short, white, strapless dress was simply too feathery, to the point, where it was feather overload. So, for next time, Katrina, just remember, moderation is key. Moving on to Julianna Marguiles...we don't know why she decided to go for full-on velvet for the SAGs, but we wish she hadn't. Her dark blue Narciso Rodriguez was frankly kind of blah, and not as form flattering as it could have been.
Now, there's no question that Sofia Vergara is gorgeous. In fact, it's really hard to imagine her looking bad in anything. That being said, her choice of SAGs dress just didn't do her justice. The red and purple Carolina Herrera gown was a bit too generic for our taste, and it would probably be better suited for a pageant (calling all Miss America contestants!), than the red carpet. Sofia's not alone though, her "Modern Family" costar Julie Bowen also joins her in the ranks of worst dressed. Julie's dress was slightly mangled and pretty much unremarkable. A white dress with one black sleeve? Not exactly groundbreaking stuff. Not to mention the fact that the shape just wasn't flattering. For what it's worth, though, we did like her hair and makeup.
And that's it for this year's SAGs worst dressed! For the ladies who made the cut, don't worry, if Mariah Carey can redeem herself and earn an honorable mention in our best dressed category, so can you. Until then, see you at the next awards show!
Who was on your worst dressed list?
