Team Rachel or Team Darcy. That's the decision moviegoers will have to make when Emily Giffin's beloved chick-lit book "Something Borrowed" gets the big-screen treatment. In fact, Giffin's debut story — which follows newly 30-year-old lawyer Rachel as she starts up a wildly passionate affair with her always-get-what-she-wants best friend Darcy's fiance — looks like it's already found its lead actress. Variety reports that Ginnifer Goodwin is onboard to play the conflicted Rachel.
But, will this casting please all the fans of the book? Ginnifer certainly fits the physical bill of Rachel (brunette, pretty, but always falling short of blond bombshell Darcy) and the actress is no stranger to starring in a movie based on a popular book aimed at women — case in point: She starred in last year's rom-com "He's Just Not That Into You."
Giffin has already given Ginnifer her seal of approval, as the author posted on her Facebook page this morning, "I am thrilled to announce that GINNIFER GOODWIN will be playing Rachel in SOMETHING BORROWED!!! I think she is a fabulous actress and perfect for the role (so much how I imagined Rachel when writing the book). Hope you all agree!" Giffin has kept fans in the loop about casting and whom they'd like to see play the book's memorable characters throughout. In fact, Elizabeth Banks, Kate Hudson and Malin Akerman have been thrown around as possibilities to play party girl Darcy, while Chris Pine, Peter Facinelli and Colin Egglesfield have been debated for sexy, sensitive Dex.
As a huge fan of the book myself (for the record, I'm Team Rachel), I'm totally in favor of Goodwin for the leading role. As far as Darcy, I always imagined the unbearably pretty Charlize Theron stepping into her stilettos and Ryan Reynolds as rugged good guy Dex.
But, I'm curious, fellow "Something Borrowed" fans, what do you think? Do you think Goodwin was the right choice for Rachel? Are you excited to see "Something Borrowed" make it to the multiplex? Who do you hope to see cast as Dex and Darcy?
