Now, if you missed last night's Grammy Awards, you missed quite a lot. Beyonce set a record, Taylor Swift won for best album (this time without any interruptions), Ke$ha presented alongside Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga performed with Elton John ... and those were just some of memorable moments (check out the rest at MTV's Newsroom Blog. Then of course, there was all the red carpet mayhem, with outfits that ranged from out of this world (we're looking at you Gaga!), to simply stunning. Now, being the awesome people that we are, we didn't want you to have to sift through tons of galleries to find last night's fashion highlights, so we've narrowed them down for you here. So, check out what you missed on the style front, and let us know what you think of the outfits!
So, regardless of what you may feel about Lady Gaga and her umm unique sense of style, you've got to admit, she definitely knows how to get your attention. At least she got ours, when she showed up to the Grammy's red carpet in an outfit that looked like it was inspired by Saturn. Either that, or hula hoops. No, seriously. The white ensemble, which was surrounded by rings, actually made us slightly dizzy. Although we've got to give her some props for skillfully maneuvering the dress, especially while holding a wand like accessory (was she planning on granting wishes?), without catching people in her orbit. Of course, Gaga, who reportedly worked with Giorgio Armani on her Grammys look, didn't stop there. She took it a step further (literally), in a pair of stilettos remiscent of Cinderlla's glass slippers — except with more bling. Did we love it? No. Was it an improvement from her past outfits, specifically the one featuring Kermit the Frog? Totally.
While Gaga opted for a piece sure to stir up conversation, Beyonce went with something much more understated. The diva had a monumental night, setting the record for the most Grammy wins by a female artist, and she looked great doing it. We thought her form fitting Stéphane Rolland gown was a great choice for the award show. Our only gripe? We wish she had opted for a bolder, brighter color — after all, it was clearly her night to shine.
Like Beyonce, singer Taylor Swift, who won album of the year, also had a pretty big night at the Grammys (see Kanye, they can share the spotlight!), and she looked every bit the star. Taylor was the epitome of youthful elegance in a heavily sequined blue Kaufman Franco gown. While the outfit definitely dazzled from the front, it was the open back that we absolutely loved. Also, kudos to her for choosing to go with a simply classic up-do and subtle makeup, so as not to take away from the glitz of the dress.
Taylor totally impressed us, but Carrie Underwood's red carpet ensemble left a lot to be desired. Granted, the singer looks great in white, but the top-half of her Georges Chakra gown, featuring silver leather straps, simply wasn't flattering. Same goes for the bottom-half, which we wish had been more fitted. In short, the dress had potential, it just needed some alterations.
Katy Perry looked every bit the glammed up rockstar when she arrived in a long-sleeved nude gown by Zac Posen, which was drizzled in flowers. The dress was a bit of a risk, especially with the daringly low-cut back, but the singer pulled it off flawlessly. As for our favorite accessory on Katy? Well, it'd have to be the engagement ring she's been sporting lately courtesy of fiance Russell Brand.Aww.
Anyway, enough with the cute stuff. If only Miley Cyrus had gotten a little style inspiration from Katy pre-Grammys . The singer/actress, who recently announced she was leaving her role as Disney's "Hannah Montana," is obviously ready to join the big leagues. But we'd like to see her do it in something a little more glam. Her dark blue long-sleeved dress by Herve Leger (who also helped her to design her line for Walmart) simply didn't standout to us and lacked originality. Our advice to Miley for next time? Step it up a notch!
OK, so we're willing to forgive Snooki aka Nicole Polizzi, for not rocking an epic poof to the Grammys (we were so looking forward to it!). But we can't let her off the hook for that dress. While Snooks looked phenomenal in dark purple, the dress was just too little in too many places, and probably would have been better suited for a fab night out at Karma than the Grammys. Seriously, if it was a bit longer, with a bit more coverage, we might have been able to get behind the idea. But whatever, we, still love Snooks, and hey, at least her tan looked great...!
Last week at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards, we said that "Glee" actress Lea Michele was quickly becoming one of our new favorite fashionistas. Well, now it's officially official. Lea looked absolutely gorgeous at the Grammy's in a one-shouldered, navy Romona Keveza dress, with a fitted bodice, and feathery bottom. She's one of many actresses who have tackled the feathered look lately, but one of the few to do it right. So, congrats Lea, you've impressed us yet again!
