"'Mamma Mia 2' is a big question mark in the sky," Amanda Seyfried said during a recent interview with MTV, but still — we're just happy to know it is even a thought in someone's brain. The first film was a huge success, holding its own while opening opposite "The Dark Knight" in 2008 and still managing to rake in $144 million domestic and $609 million worldwide.
It had an all-star cast that is hard to be outdone, even today: Amanda, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth. It is the third top earning-musical of all time according to Box Office Mojo, beaten only by "Grease", but "Chicago." Amanda seems to agree that the magic of "Mamma Mia!" might be hard to recreate.
"I don't know if they'll be able to outdo the original. Everything was just so electric and positive and so fun. I don't know if they could do it," she said.
But Amanda's opinion is a bit skewed based on the fact that she might not be in another "Mamma Mia!" film. "The most recent thing I heard is that it was going to be a prequel. I don't know if this is true. If it is, I probably won't be a part of it, which is sad," she admitted.
She elaborated her bias, saying, "I almost hope they can't [make it], unless I'm in it. I had the best time of my life. Come on, dancing on a Greek Isle?"
With "Dear John" being the first film to topple "Avatar" from its hold in the box office on number one, there's a good chance the studio could seriously consider keeping Amanda in the series based on her star power alone. And we really hope that is the case as well.
