February 14 is still a few days away (wink, wink, nudge, nudge BFs of the world), but the ladies of the highly anticipated rom-com "Valentine's Day" looked like sweet treats at the flick's L.A. premiere held last night at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Short and fitted seemed to be the unofficial dress code for the evening, with star Jessica Alba leading the way. Jessica flaunted her toned limbs (seriously, this woman is a mother!) in a peacock-inspired Proenza Schouler frock, complete with emerald-hued feathers and intricate bead work. We couldn't help but wonder if her shoes were specifically made for the dress, seeing as the two-toned green and blue heels matched her frock perfectly. But, surprisingly, they're Marc Jacobs. Go figure. Fellow Jessica (Biel, that is), somehow missed the short/fitted memo with, shall we say, unflattering results. Jessica's pink and white Oscar de la Renta looked more suited for a Christmas affair as its hues and voluminous ruffles reminded us of an exploding candy cane. Kudos for picking a theme-appropriate color scheme, but ultimately, the look was way overdone.
On the other end of the spectrum, costar Anne Hathaway's royal blue Marchesa could have benefited from a bit more fabric as it seemed a tad short, but that's the only criticism we have for this finely-feathered frock. Perhaps Anne and J. Alba visited a topiary together before the premiere? You know what they say about birds of a feather... Another rockin' look we loved was Jennifer Garner's black leather and lace and Valentino. The floral and sheer elements added a bit of sugar to this otherwise spicy look.
For Julia Roberts and niece Emma, "Valentine's Day" was a family affair, and last night's premiere was no different. Julia looked classy (though a touch boring, perhaps) in a black organza Christian Dior dress. The cut and shape of this dress seems a bit 50s, homemaker chic, right? Emma, on the other hand, looked radiant in a white halter Jenny Packham mini dress. She certainly looks every inch the grown-up next to her movie star aunt, that's for sure. And speaking of grande dames of the cinema, the always amazing Shirley MacLaine looked stately in a black suit.
What do you think of the stars' "Valentine's Day" looks? Who is your best- and worst-dressed?
