Just in time for the release of "The Wolfman," FeatNet.com counted up the votes for their Tournament of Werewolves today and announced the champion. Sorry "Twilight" and "Trick 'R' Treat" fans, but it was actor David Naughton's portrayal of David Kessler in "An American Werewolf in London" who took the prize.
Taylor Lautner's Jacob Black didn't make it past the final four as he was steamrolled by Anna Paquin's Laurie in "Trick 'R' Treat," losing 81 percent to 19 percent. It seemed that Laurie's surprise turn from victim to killer during her plot line of "Trick 'R' Treat" was enough to wow voters more than Taylor Lautner's glistening abs were. It's okay though because, according to Stephenie Meyer's definition, Jacob is a shifter, not a werewolf.
However, Laurie wasn't able to make it through the final round to be the champion, and that's not too surprising. "An American Werewolf in London" is one of the more iconic werewolf films out there, and viewers had 27 more years to watch and love it than "Trick 'R' Treat," which just hit DVDs in 2008. Still, the votes were much closer than Laurie versus Taylor, with David Kessler winning 59 percent to Laurie's 41 percent.
It is a bit impressive, though, that both Laurie and Jacob made it to the final four out of the original 16. While "Trick 'R' Treat" is fast becoming a cult favorite, "The Twilight Saga" is more openly recognized as a teen romance than a solid vampire film. For Jacob to have made it so far in the voting is pretty impressive, especially considering FearNet readers aren't your typical teenage girl "Twilight" fan, especially considering he beat out "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" Oz, who is definitely a fan favorite. Maybe "Twilight's" popularity is more widespread than we realized?
