It seems like Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have been married forever. With two beautiful babies, Harlow and Sparrow, and a very public (and drama-free) three-year relationship under their belt, these lovebirds are a match made in Hollywood heaven. So, we're ready to celebrate the fact that they are now officialy making it official!
Though Nicole planned to announce their engagement on Friday night’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” Joel spilled the tweets beans by announcing the happy news via Twitter before his lovely bride-to-be could do the honors. He has since removed the message, which read "Yep. I'm engaged. Very happy. Yeah, we've been engaged for a while, so you're all kind of late on that. But thanks for the hoopla all the same."
The couple, who are currently in New York City showcasing Nicole’s new jewelry line at Fashion Week, have kept the engagement quiet for a while up until now. Nic appeared on "Live With Regis and Kelly" on Tuesday morning (Feb 16), but wasn’t wearing her rock and stayed mum on the news.
In an episode of "The Late Show" set to air Friday, Nicole confirmed the engagement:
"Now, you're not married yet — is that correct?" Letterman asked.
"We're not married," replied Nicole.
Letterman then followed up with, "Are you engaged? Are you planning to get married?"
"We actually recently are engaged, yes," she stated.
"You are engaged?" Letterman responded to the news, "Oh, congratulations, that's nice ... a lot of people will have children and then they don't want to rush right into the marriage — you know, they wait 'til the kids get out of college, then they get married."
After the news broke, Joel took to his Twitter yet again to thank his friends and family for helping the pair keep their secret for as long as they could. "P.S. That's why I love my family and friends," he tweeted (in another deleted post). "None of them are sources. All good tight-lipped people who let us enjoy it! Thanks, everybody."
We couldn’t be happier for these two — well, four! Congratulations to the happy family!
