Robert Pattinson is shifting gears from his super sultry vampire persona and taking an emotional dive into a deeper role in his new movie, "Remember Me," with actress Emilie de Ravin.
In the latest issue of Vogue (Tina Fey is on the cover!), the two dish the dirt on what it was like to film their new romantic drama on the streets of New York among the hoards of fans and paparazzi. "It was the most ridiculous experience. You're trying to stay in character and you're trying to walk down the street, but all those people keep reminding you that you're not this character, you're—" says Robert. "A show pony," Emilie interrupts, laughing.
Though they joked about the difficulty in staying focused, there is nothing humorous about the drama in this film. In fact, their roles are quite different than the characters they play in “Twilight” and “Lost.” Robert, who stars as Tyler Hawkins, an alienated and confused young man from a wealthy family—"It's not too Rebel Without a Cause," he jokes—who gets involved with Ally (Emilie), the daughter of a cop who arrested him after a street fight.
Emilie, who is best known as the new mama, Claire, on "Lost," admits her island role that was less than challenging for her than "Remember Me." "I was always holding the baby in every scene," she told the mag, "while everybody else was going off shooting people."
Though the two are in for much more fanfare with the release of "Remember Me," it seems like Robert still hasn’t gotten used to all the attention. "Everybody knows where everybody is," he says. "The Twitter thing is unbelievable. I went out a couple of times with Pierce,” Robert says, of Pierce Brosnan, who plays his father in the film. “He's totally recognizable, and he makes no effort to tone it down. Some people were glancing over at us in the restaurant, and he just went over and introduced himself. And it does work. It dissipates all the attention."
Robert hasn’t quite mastered the art of navigating all those fans, however. "Me?" he says, "I just crawl under the table."
