It's been a long time in coming for the little film "The Yellow Handkerchief" to hit (quasi) mainstream audiences. The Kristen Stewart-starring film hit Sundance in early 2007, a little more than three years before it is now getting its limited theatrical release. A few short months after it debuted in Sundance, Kristen was off filming a little film called "Twilight" that would change her career forever.
With her most ambitious film to date, "The Runaways," hitting theaters within a month of "Handkerchief," it will be interesting juxtaposition to see how Kristen's acting developed over the past three years (and also, pre- and post-"Twilight"). She at least can tell some of the differences.
"I would have done anything for this thing," Kristen said of her mindset when shooting "Handkerchief." "I took dance classes. [Making movies] was very different I viewed this whole thing differently, not in terms of doing the job but just in terms of what it meant for other people."
In some ways it seems as though that's how she still treats her films, but with the whole world seemingly watching her every move, the pressure's on for Kristen to be the best she can be.
"I had so much fun on this movie," she said about "Handkerchief." "We shot in New Orleans it seemed quite small and we could really own it. As soon as I met [costars] Eddie [Redmayne] and William [Hurt], we all went into this decrepit production office; it was before 'Twilight,' and I was so into the fact I was making little movies."
Kristen said she definitely thinks her career has grown, and we would have to agree. With both the time that has passed and the variety of types of movies she has starred in, it would be hard not to grow.
But Kristen seemed to be a bit nostalgic for earlier, simpler times.
"It was mine then; it was just mine," she said of her career when she shot "Handkerchief." "And no one cared about it. It was cool."
