Freida Pinto, the gorgeous actress who got her start in Oscar-winner "Slumdog Millionaire," has signed on to star in an upcoming mythological action film focused around the struggle between humans and the Greek Titans, Variety reports. Before you start trying to wrap your mind around how Freida is going to become a part of "Clash of the Titans," which hits theaters in a month, we've got to tell you, it's not that historical epic.
It's kind of humorous to look back a year and a half and see the article Variety first ran when they announced that Universal would be moving forward with "War of the Gods" around the same time Warner Bros. signed Sam Worthington to "Clash of the Titans." Back then, Variety guessed that "War" would be the first to hit theaters, but now it is only set to begin production in April when "Clash" will be hitting theaters.
On the surface, the two films look almost identical. "War of the Gods" is said to follow a young warrior Theseus who "leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind."
"Clash," by contrast, is about the son of Zeus, Perseus, who "volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus and unleash hell on earth." It is said to be a remake of the original 1981 campy classic, but the inclusion of Hades is a marked difference.
Fortunately we'll have around a year to forget their similarities and ignore the war of the Titans in the box office (see what we did there?). That gives us enough time to focus on the importance differences between the two: mainly the way hotter actors starring in "War of the Gods."
The aforementioned Theseus is going to be played by Henry Cavill, who is best known as Charles Brandon in "The Tudors." Sam Worthington is a nice every-man sort of action hero, but Henry is a babe. And at least his legitimate British accent will be nicer to listen to than Sam's Aussie version.
Freida will be playing Phaedra, who Variety describes as "an oracle priestess who must join Theseus on his quest to prevent the cataclysmic war from erupting." Wait, that kind of reminds of Gemma Arteron who plays the priestess Io in "Clash of the Titans"…. Oh, whatever.
