The juxtaposition of romances in Kristen Stewart's newest film to hit theaters, "The Yellow Handkerchief," is a key aspect of the film's plot. The innocent teen romance between Kristen and her onscreen beau Eddie Redmayne contrasts with the grown-up reunion between ex-con William Hurt and his one love Maria Bello and explores the intricacies of love and relationships.
"What I love, that 'The Yellow Handkerchief' actually does, is that it shows there are different types of love," Kristen said. "There are different types of relationships, different types of people that can find a focus and adoration for each other, even in weird circumstances."
Eddie agreed. "In the older one — the William Hurt and Maria Bello relationship — you have a triumphant, real love story, like you really want them to be together and when they're not it feels really wrong," he explained. "With ours, they may not be together next week. They're crazy kids, like total weirdo loners."
This is not the only intricate, exploratory love story Kristen will find herself a part of in 2010. She will explore the love between friends in the Joan Jett-Cherie Curie biopic "The Runaways" in March, and return to the eternal love between a vampire and a human in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" in June.
When asked what the secret is to making a great romantic movie, Kristen answered, "That's a hard question. [The good ones] should all be totally unique."
Eddie seemed to think "The Yellow Handkerchief" qualified for that category. "There is uniqueness about [this film]. In this love story, I like the contrast between the two relationships," he said.
