There are a little over three weeks until "The Runaways" hits theaters (on March 19, but we know you've been marking your calendars for this one), but we've been a bit left in the dark as far as footage goes. Maybe it's because a lucky few got to see the film at Sundance, but all the rest of us poor individuals have gotten to see is a teaser trailer, some clips and a collection of stills and a poster.
But fortunately Apparition decided to stop letting word-of-mouth do all the heavy-lifting, and has released a TV spot today showing some great new footage which fleshes out visually what we already know of the story. Plus there's that great cherry bomb graphic at the end (yes, a cherry blowing up like a bomb) that makes the whole thing worthwhile.
At the beginning we get some nice introductory visuals of Kristen Stewart as Runaways leading lady Joan Jett, first spray-painting herself a new T-shirt and then running down the street in a leather jacket. In fact, she even introduces herself as "I'm Joan Jett" for anyone who hasn't been paying attention thus far, explaining that she wants to make an all-girl rock band.
We then get to see a bit more of Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, and we get a look at some of the family struggles she had to go through (and we're guessing all the teens in The Runaways had to go through) to become a part of the band. "You know how many bands think they're going to make it?" a blonde woman who looks like her mom asks her. "Well excuse me if I don't want to work at the [local restaurant] for the rest of my life," Cherie replies.
Cut to: "We did it," from Joan. "We got signed?!" asks a bedraggled and potentially naked Cherie. "We got signed!" Joan screams in reply.
The rest of the TV spot is stuff we already saw in the teaser, though we do get a full shot of a scantily-clad Cherie rocking out onstage. We're just getting more and more excited from watching this teaser on repeat and reading all the reviews that have come out about the film. But what we're even more excited about is the box office face-off between Robert Pattinson's March 12 "Remember Me" and KStew's March 19 "The Runaways."
What did you think of the new TV spot?
