Happy Birthday Justin Bieber And Ke$ha! Pop Stars Turn 16 And 23

Today isn't just the first day of a new month, nor is it simply the first day in over two weeks without an Olympic event to watch. Perhaps most importantly for fans of modern pop and R&B music, it's the sixteenth birthday of singer-songwriter Justin Bieber! And for fans of pop singer Ke$ha, get your birthday candles as well. The singer turns 23 today.

The "One Less Lonely Girl" performer was born in Stratford, Ontario in Canada on March 1, 1994. In his short career thus far, he's already seen several singles — including "One Time," "Favorite Girl" and "Love Me" — emerge as Top 40 hits on the Billboad Hot 100 and Top 15 his on the Canadian Hot 100 all before the actual release of his debut album "My World." He also made history when every song on the two-part album charted on the Hot 100 in the United States.

At only 16 years old, Justin has already made a massive musical splash by associations with artists like Taylor Swift and Usher as well as his very own merits, which include a prominent role in the 25th anniversary of "We Are The World" to benefit Haiti in the aftermath of January's earthquake. If there's a better way to burst upon the popular music scene, I certainly haven't heard of it.

As for what to wish him on his sixteenth birthday — besides the fact that, as a Canadian, he can be very proud of his country's hard fought victory against Team USA in men's hockey at the Olympics — there's really only one thing that comes to mind: further success and happiness as he continues to embark upon his hopefully lengthy musical career.

Relative newcomer Ke$ha was born in Los Angeles but raised in Nashville where she began her interest in music. But it wasn't until 2009 that the artist had her breakout, appearing on a Flo Rider single. Her own single "Tik Tok" stormed the charts in Summer 2009, becoming the longest-running debut by a female artist in over twenty years. With her new album "Animal" already hitting number one, we look forward to seeing what this talented star has in her future.
