With only one day left until the Oscars, the celebrations across Hollywood have continued to rage on. The stars turned out last night to independent filmmakers at the Independent Spirit Awards and if their fashion choices say anything about what we can expect to see tomorrow night, consider us ready!
With so much black, one would think the three of these women were in mourning, but alas, it's actually quite opposite — all of them are up for an Academy Award this Sunday. "An Education" star Carey Mulligan returned to our good fashion graces (her Elle UK Style Awards number was just too ho hum for our taste) in a form-fitting, embellished, leather and lace dress by Christopher Kane. Special shout out on the adorable cutout heels and bright lips.
Gabourey Sidibe also looked fabulous (is this the most radiant we've seen her yet?) in a tiered dress. We do hope, however, to see her in a bold color at the Oscars. Maggie Gyllenhal's long draped Lanvin dress was a bit of a fashion fail mostly because the black dress on black tights on black heels look was too harsh. We would've preferred a strappy metallic shoe.
There's not a whole lot to see about the photo above other than meow. "Hurt Locker" star and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner looked dapper in a black tux. "True Blood" pals Sam Trammell and Ryan Kwanten has us booking a one-way ticket to Bon Temps, and "Sex and the City" hunk Jason Lewis left us hoping for lots of Smith Jerrod screentime in "Sex and the City 2," if you, uh, know what we mean.
Looks like Mariah Carey decided it was appropriate to bring out her golden globes once again last night. We thought she may have learned after all the backlash she received with her revealing Golden Globes dress, but sadly, she has not. The pop diva should consider seeking wardrobe advice from "New Moon" star Rachelle Lefevere , who was almost angelic in a nude one-shoulder Grecian dress. As one of the only females who chose to wear color, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga almost automatically got put on our best dressed list. We loved the architectural shape of her strapless Marchesa dress and we're betting that tomorrow night will also bring a showstopping number.
We're pretty sure Olivia Wilde has never had a failed red carpet moment (that is, if you forget about zipper gate) — just look at how gorgeous she looks in her flowing silk Ralph Lauren gown. Normally, we'd prefer the hair to look a little bit done, but we don't mind the tousled locks. Our Girl Crush of the week, Mia Wasikowska, kept us in "Wonderland" with her icy silver one-shoulder Rodarte frock. We do wish, however, she didn't go so stark with black tights and chose maybe a more opaque shade, but over all, she looked chic. Brittany Snow chose a color-blocked mini that was cute, but was way too casual for this red carpet.
