"I didn't realize that in Hollywood that all you have to do is say you'll show up and you'll get [an award]," Sandra Bullock told the raucous crowd at the Razzie's awards ceremony Saturday night. "If I had known that, I would have said I was appearing at the Oscars a long time ago."
We think we're going to start "appearing" at the Oscars as well now, because Sandra managed to walk away from this weekend not only with two Razzie's (Worst Actress and Worst Couple for "All About Steve"), but also with her very first Best Actress Academy Award.
It seems to be a big deal that Sandra (or Sandy as we love hearing her affectionately referred to as) is the first actor to win a Razzie and Oscar in the same year, but we here at Hollywood Crush are pretty impressed that she won Best Actress in general. While it would be hard to argue that Sandra wasn't the darling of the category, she was up against some pretty tough competition in the form of Gaborey Sidibe, Cary Mulligan, Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep.
Fortunately Sandra as graciously accepted her Oscar for "The Blind Side" as she did her Razzie's, although somehow we don't think she'll be asking the Academy to reconsider their decision and take their award back next year like she did the Razzie's. She acknowledged all of them on their amazing performances and, in an incredibly classy move, saying she had "fallen deeply in love with" the actresses she shares the award with.
"Gabby," she said in her speech, addressing her fellow nominees, "I love you so much. You are exquisite. You are beyond words to me. Cary, your grace and your elegance and your beauty and your talent makes me sick. Helen, I feel like we are family through family and I don't have the words to express what I think of you. And Meryl, you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser."
She added, "This is a once in a lifetime experience, I know," and the fact that she won a Razzie the same time as an Oscar seems to emphasize the fact that while Sandra may have given an Oscar-worthy performance, she might not continue to be an Oscar-worthy actress. But we are so happy for her win, and for her amazing year.
"It's one of those rare occasions in a lifetime when all the puzzle pieces come together and they work," she told MTV News on the red carpet. "You can't manufacture that. You can't plan it. You can't fix it. It's sweet — unexpected but very sweet."
