In the immortal words of the kids of California: This show is totally "dunzo." MTV announced yesterday that the sixth season of "The Hills," which premieres on April 27, will be its last.
Attributing his reasoning to wanting to go out on "a high note," Tony DiSanto, president of programming at MTV, said, "We are lucky and honored to have worked with this cast and tell their stories for this long, and we are grateful to the many dedicated fans who have stuck with us over the years."
Don't go crying over spilled Speidi just yet, "Hills" fans — the end of what has become a major blip on pop culture map, will not leave the land of reality TV without some big moments. "This season," Tony said, "will deliver on that goal in terms of drama, story, real emotion and an organic culmination of this saga."
Some examples: viewers will see Audrina Patridge dating singer Ryan Cabrera, Kristin Cavallari dealing with rumors of drug abuse and perhaps the most emotional storyline will deal with Heidi Montag's plastic surgery — specifically when she faces her family about it in the season premiere. "We tell the whole story," creator Adam DiVello said. "We pick right up where Heidi goes and sees her parents. And our cameras are there that minute the mother opens the door and sees her daughter for the first time." Adds executive producer Liz Gateley, "It's a really touching but heartbreaking scene to watch."
No word on if the shows' original star, Lauren Conrad, will return to bid her old pals adieu, but Adam noted, "I always joked it would be nice to see Lauren get married."
What do you think about this being the final season of "The Hills"? Will you watch now specifically for that reason?
