'Life Unexpected' Recap: Episode 11, 'Storm Weathered'

It's Tuesday, "Life Expectees," and time to recap the adventures of our favorite foster child and her dysfunctional cohorts. A torrential rain storm hit Portland last night, knocking out powerlines and slowing plotlines, reminding me why I started watching this show in the first place. The show took on a "Lost"-like quality (stay with me!), as weeks of erratic behavior were accounted for and questions were answered.

Question: Why would Baze date Cate's (awful) sister?

Answer: She teaches yoga in an "I'd Tap That" tee-shirt, eats faux-nuts (!!???!!), forces her red-string beliefs on others, moves her personal belongings into Baze's apartment way too fast and imposes on his roomies. Bottomline: Abby sucks. But Lux saw Baze hook-up with Abby and he wants to prove to his daughter that he is not a one-night-stand kind of dad. So he sticks it out and tries to make a relationship where a relationship should never have been made. Seeing the error in his logic of dating his daughter's aunt, Baze ends it with Abby.

Follow-Up: Why would Abby date her niece's father?

Answer: When Cate got knocked up at 16, she changed. Cate felt alone and unsupported and she drifted away from her then 14-year-old sister. Things have never been the same and Abby misses Cate, she wants to be close to her again and although she is a therapist, therapists are human too and they make mistakes. Like trying to rekindle a relationship with their sister by sleeping with their baby daddy ... Yeah, I give up. This is still so effed up and reeks of psychological issues. But I did feel better when Cate and Abby hugged.

Question: Why is Cate jealous of her insane sister and Baze's relationship?

Answer: Everyone hates rejection and wants to be forever lusted-over. Even Ryan understands this.

Question: Why is Lux jealous when Jones makes out with another girl at his party?

Answer: See above. Also add 15 years of rejection from potential adoptive parents on top of that.

Question: Who brings alcohol to a bar?

Answer: Radio personalities do when they want to celebrate their decision not to elope, but rather to torture their closest family and friends by getting married with them in attendance, reminding these people of everything their lives lack.

Question: Where was Bug?

Answer: Bug enjoyed a quiet evening in, watching the storm, playing suck-and-blow alone and eating dry ramen noodles.

Question: What was with the intense Cate-Baze eye contact?

Answer: We have to wait til next week to find out!
