Move over, "American Idol," the most exciting audition for new talent just became the nationwide open casting call for "Glee"! Besides not having to deal with that pesky Simon Cowell, they are allowing anyone (age 16-26) try out for a spot on the smash hit to get the chance to work alongside the likes of Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison.
On the show's official audition MySpace page, talented Gleeks can submit a video containing both a statement about why they want to be on the show and a song from the selected list (all 13 songs to choose from were featured on the show, including Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" and The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want").
Think you've got the stuff to be part of New Directions? Well, get cracking, Crushers! But before you do... we wanted to help you stand out amongst the, undoubtedly, large amount of hopefuls. So, here are five things to do in your audition tape to prove you're a true Gleek!
1. Show your style!
Each character on the show has their own unique style (even the teachers. Hello, Emma Pillsbury!) so be sure to let them see your true colors — with clothes, hair, shoes, nail polish — shine through.
2. Show your love!
Everyone's going to brag about how much they love the show, but really let them know your devotion by paying homage to "Glee" in your audition. Sip a Slurpee, rock a faux-hawk, do the "Single Ladies" dance on a football field. Whatever it takes to prove you live and breathe "Glee!"
3. Show your school!
Even if your school is nothing like the show's, introduce them to the students and staff that make you want to transfer to McKinley High School. Bonus points if your cheerleading coach can act like a shrew!
4. Show your skills!
They'll see your singing abilities in your other video, so use this opportunity to show what other talents you'll bring to the table. Can you tell a great joke with impeccable? Cry on cue to the thought of your star-crossed crush? Jump and flip on a bed for a mattress commercial? (Maybe don't do this one, actually! Sorry, Moms!)
5. Show you're an underdog!
If you're searching for quick fame and glory, wait it our for "America's Got Talent." "Glee" is all about the underdog, so if you've got a story about finishing second in school, love, sports or any other traumatizing series of events in your young life, share it loud and proud!
