After a few solid weeks of love, the relationships of West Bev had to be put to the test Tuesday night. Could Liam handle the fact that Naomi lied about being sexually harassed? Could Gia handle Adrianna’s friendship with Navid? Could Mr. Matthews handle smoking weed with Laurel? Essentially the answers were a resounding “no.” But as they say, when one door closes, another opens and in high school, the doors are always swinging.
Since Laurel approached Adrianna in the school yard last week, offering her a record deal, Aid has been wavering. While getting signed is nothing to sneeze at, let’s not forget this girl has been around the block: she was an actress, had a drug problem, went to rehab and she was knocked up. She knows what an album and tour bring along with it. Aid confides in Navid about her worries and both girlfriends, Lila and Gia, freak out. While Navid recreates cotillion, where he stepped on Lila’s 12-year-old foot, and expresses his commitment to her, Gia finds solace in the arms of her ex-girlfriend while Aid is at Laurel’s “industry” party.
A music biz shindig DJ-ed by only the best, right? Or DJ Dix. High on her ever-present joint, Laurel hires Dixon to work her party. She also manages to convince old Wake-N-Bake-Matthews to toke up again after years off the green.
Matthews ruminates on music videos and wags his behind in Laurel’s face until he realizes he is high at a party surrounded by his students. Finally acting like an actual teacher with responsibilities to job, he bolts from the party. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get far and has to camp out on the doorstep, too stoned to find his car until Laurel shows up with an apology and a fresh doobie.
In a less hazy world, Naomi ends her sexual harassment case by coming clean in a hearing with Mr. Cannon, Principal Wilson and Cannon’s wife, a minor character who dramatically sobs with relief at N’s confession. Liam goes from telling Naomi he loves her to packing his bags to get away from her in the course of an hour.
Seeing her chance, Ivy stalks Liam at the beach to gloat about Naomi’s downfall. Liam rather harshly puts an end to any idea she might have of the two of them being together though and she is left to find comfort in Dixon, who plays Bob Marley to cheer her up in a surprisingly cute moment. Looks like faux dating is turning real.
Annie and Silver get into some hijinx barely worth repeating when Brandon Walsh’s mustang makes an appearance at a used car lot and the girls decide they must have a “Thelma and Louise” moment and test-drive the car sans salesman. Turned down once, they return to the lot an hour later in more make-up and less clothes and begin talking in unidentifiable accents about “money burning a hole in my wallet.” Whoever wrote this scene (it’s easy to find out, but I won’t go so far as to name names) really needs a reality check. Or a better imagination as the whole premise just seems to get Annie to drive by the scene of her hit and run and kick start some flashbacks and guilt-ridden nightmares.
Back at school, Naomi finds herself friendless and the target of stares and whispers, as was predicted weeks ago. Murderer Annie comforts N, letting her know just how much she understands when a lie takes over your life.
Saving the end of the show was the prospect of a Navid/ Adrianna reunion when they run into each other at a coffee shop where Aid is channeling her pain into music. (Full disclosure: this is my favorite couple and I always pray for them to get back together and I will never root for a Lila or Gia relationship to work.) (Another sidenote: Whatever happened to the Peach Pit?)
Which couple is your favorite on "90210"? Did you like the random "Thelma & Louise" moment or did you think it was as lame as we did? Finally, does anyone else find Mr. Matthews chemistry with Laurel all but non existent?
