We've been closely following the ups and downs of the "Footloose" remake's journey through production, so when leading lady (and only remaining cast member?) Julianne Hough threw us a bone, we immediately bit.
She told MTV News on the Academy of Country Music Award red carpet Sunday that she doesn't know much about the nation-wide search to play the leading man of the film, but that she expects he'll be "somebody edgy and a little rough." Well, Crushers, you know what that means as well as we do: casting couch time. And since we've had some luck with this type of stuff in the past, our three lucky picks better be watching out for some good news to be coming their way soon.
See our casting idea list after the jump!
Robert Hoffman
You know him best as "That guy who replaced Channing Tatum in 'Step Up 2: The Streets'," but we think that actually works to Robert Hoffman's advantage. Paramount has been pretty clear that they're done trying to work a big name actor in as leading man in "Footloose," and Rob has done a pretty good job of staying off Hollywood's radar with the exception of the upcoming "Aliens in the Attic." But he's already proved he's got some serious dancing skills and can pull off the angsty, tortured, bad boy aura needed to star in a "Step Up" film, so we think he could give Julianne a run for her money.
Hunter Parrish
So, here's the thing: we desperately want to see Hunter Parrish up on the big screen performing his awesome song and dance skills. Wealready suggested him for playing the role of Johnny in the remake of "Dirty Dancing," but we think he could definitely pull off Ren as well. He's already proved he's got some serious edge as the pot-dealing son of Nancy Botwin on "Weeds," but also is better known in musical circuits as the lead in Broadway's "Spring Awakening" and for almost edging out Zac Efron for leading man in "High School Musical." Plus, when someone gets as glowing a stamp of approval as Hunter did from John Krasinski, you really just can't say no.
Mark Salling
If you're looking for "edgy" and "rough," look no farther than "Glee's" in-house bad boy, Mark Salling. Though word on the street is he wouldn't have to use his singing skills in "Footloose," he's already proved that he can pull off the necessary dance numbers. Since Mark also had the honor of being last week's Hump Day Hottie, we're thinking he's pretty much in the bag for this role.
Who do you think should play the leading man in "Footloose"? Do you think it should be someone brand new, or do you agree with any of our picks?
