Still humming Madonna tunes after last night’s “Power of Madonna” episode? Keep it up, Gleeks. You’re not the only one, which is exactly why reports of a sequel have already arrived!
Entertainment Weekly confirms that “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy has spoken with Madonna’s camp — regarding the show’s next Madge-based episode — and a follow-up is already in the works.
“Madonna and her people are into it and want it to happen,” Ryan told EW. The next Madonna episode would be ready for air early next season, and Ryan plans to integrate six more Madonna classics into round two. Fans might even have a say in which ones if he sticks with his plan to use a poll on Fox.com.
After bizarre reports surfaced last week that Madonna did not know what “Glee” is, rest assured that she most certainly does, along with the 13.5 million viewers who tuned in last night.
More importantly, which songs are you gunning for? We put together a brief list to spark the song decision process.
1. “American Life” :Remember when Madonna tried rapping in this track off the 2003 album of the same name? After Mercedes revealed her Madonna-savvy side last night, I can’t wait to hear her belt out Madonna’s unforgettable freestyle: “I do yoga and pilates and the room is full of hotties so I’m checking our their bodies and you know I’m satisfied.” Need I say more?
2. “Material Girl”: Would a Madonna saga really be complete without the song responsible for her infamous nickname? The second single off 1984’s Like a Virgin has inspired movies by the likes of Hilary Duff, but has yet to receive its fair share of love from “Glee.” Quinn comes to mind as one who could do the track justice, but at this point we’d settle for anyone.
3. “Heartbeat”: We can’t ignore Madonna’s funky side, which was fully unleashed on this Pharrell collaboration off her most recent studio album Hard Candy. Haven’t heard it yet? Download it now and you’ll know what I’m talking about. The beat is unmistakable; this synth-heavy track will be stuck in your head for hours and is practically begging for a “Glee” remix.
Which songs do YOU think should be included in the sequel to “The Power of Madonna”? Do you think this is too much Madonna for one show? Or not nearly enough?
