J.Lo's newest romcom "The Back-up Plan" tells a modern day sort of fairytale: a woman meets the man of her dreams the same day she conceives twins through artificial insemination. The idea of a woman taking control of her own future by having kids before meeting Mr. Right is pretty popular this year, what with Jennifer Aniston's "The Switch" hitting theaters this summer.
MTV had a chance to sit down with "The Back-up Plan" leading man Alex O'Loughlin and asked him how he would feel if he met the perfect woman and found out mid-way through their relationship that she was already pregnant. Turns out he wouldn't initially be as receptive as his character Stan is.
"I think I'd freak out! I mean, it's a big deal," Alex said with a laugh. "Talk about a life-long commitment. A ring and a set of vows is one thing, but another living being is another, especially if it's not your child."
He gave kudos to the men out there who are willing to raise a child that's not biologically theirs, and said about his character, "Stan's a bigger man than I am," before quickly retracting and saying, "Well, I don't know what I'd do actually. I'm sure if I loved the woman — I mean, if it's the woman that I'm meant to be with — like I'm not going to go, 'Yeah, you're good, but ditch the kid.'"
We'll admit that it's a pretty massive commitment for a guy to make just coming into a relationship, and that's part of what makes "The Back-up Plan" such a fairy tale. As to how most guys would respond in real life to the revelation Jennifer Lopez's character Zoe springs on Stan, Alex said, "Every guy I think would freak out and I think most guys would go and seriously reconsider the options."
What do you think about Alex's comments? Would you expect a guy to act as he predicted?
