Sparks will fly among “iCarly” fans everywhere when they pick up a copy of Miranda Cosgrove’s debut album, which just came out yesterday! Just don’t expect more of the same Miranda, because this time around the “Despicable Me” star — who co-wrote several of the songs — got personal in a way she hasn’t before. Sparks Fly is a follow-up to Miranda’s five-song EP About You Now, but only now is she finding her musical style.
“Pretty much all of the songs are pop-rock,” Miranda told MTV News of her sound. “I got to co-write on a lot of the songs. I was trying to find my musical style. I’ve been playing guitar since I was little.”
And while most artists draw from life experience when they write love songs, this 16-year-old is no exception. Miranda mentioned that the lead single off the album (“Kissin’ U”) and a few other tracks on Sparks Fly, were inspired by a real life crush!
“The song’s about your first love or thinking you’re falling in love, so it’s just kind of a really happy, sweet song,” she said of “Kissin’ U.” “I did write it about a guy, and I’m afraid he might have heard it and he’s going to figure it out!”
That same boy will be happy to learn that “Disgusting,” a Ke$ha-penned track on Sparks Fly, isn’t related to him at all. “I love songs that are a little tongue-in-cheek,” Miranda said about the track.
The team of hitmakers Miranda collaborated with on the album — including Claude Kelly, Dr. Luke and the Matrix — should help ensure that the Sparks Fly listening experience is anything but disgusting.
Are you ready and willing to hear Miranda sing a full EP about boys and crushes? What is your favorite song off Sparks Fly?
