Casting has been moving pretty quickly for "The Girl With The Red Riding Hood" ever since Amanda Seyfried was cast as the titular Red. First Shiloh Fernandez signed on to be one of her two boy-toys, and then Max Irons signed on for the other, and now Julie Christie and Gary Oldman are in talks to join the cast as well.
"I mean, come on, that's ridiculous. That's amazing," Amanda gushed to MTV News when we got a chance to catch up with her this week.
At first Amanda had been hesitant to join the cast for fear the Catherine Hardwicke-helmed gothic retelling off the classic fairy tale would become the next "Twilight." "This isn't going to be 'Twilight.' [Catherine has] made it clear," Amanda had said with certainty when we spoke with her last month.
It turns out that it was Catherine's vision for the fairy tale — what has previously been described as "super sexy" — that swayed Amanda over to joining the cast to begin with.
"I'm always kind of careful about what I choose," Amanda said. "I had known [Catherine] kind of a little bit before, when I was dating Emile Hirsch [who worked with Catherine on 'Lords of Dogtown'], and I had been to her house before. That was years ago. And when I had met with her again, she talked about this movie. I completely fell in love with her idea and trusted her form that moment on, and I'm like, 'Yeah, I'm down.' "
Amanda said casting was finalized this week, and filming will begin in July. Since "Breaking Dawn" production doesn't look like it will be starting until the fall, there could still be some time for a couple cast members to hop over onto this film, since we know Catherine has a tendency to reuse her actors.
Is this a film you're looking forward to? Are you glad Catherine isn't filming this to be the next "Twilight"?
